A moment of weakness is all it takes to stumble, to lose focus, to do things which we will regret probably for the rest of our lives.
Let me illustrate this using a real-time example:
Day 1: After a long evening we came home from practice and all I wanted to do is to hit the bed. The left overs of the dinner that I had prepared was atop the kitchen counter. As I finished washing the dishes and cleaning the rest of the things I looked at the left overs and I said to myself, it’s ok for me to leave it here. I just prepared it and it will stay good till lunch tomorrow. I had not moved it because I was exhausted and was lazy to transfer the left overs to a container and put it in the fridge, which would mean more cleaning.
Day 2: Sunday started with its own challenges, getting ready, running after my 3-year-old ready and going to church service. This was followed by a lunch treat and movie mania at home. All this while the cabbage (the left over dinner) lay there rotting. It totally slipped my mind!
Day 3: Monday: Amidst the rush and madness of getting my daughter off to school, I kept smelling something foul. I couldn’t make out what it was. The sink empty, the kitchen counter clean and the garbage taken out. I kept wondering to myself, “Where is that foul smell coming from? What could it possibly be?” Then something caught my eye.. there in the corner lay this container with the cabbage left overs!
That one moment of laziness caused our whole house to smell for about 20 min. As I opened the vessel to empty it, my husband and my daughter came running to me and asked… uh…what’s that stink?!
Well, this is just an example of how a moment of weakness could cause damages. In this case I wasted some food, the house smelt rotten for sometime. No major damage done. But this is not the case all the time.
These moments of weaknesses may be different for different people. It can simply vary from not pressing hard and being lazy (like in my case) to lust, porn, addictions, anger, malice etc
1 Peter 5:8:”Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”
So let us be on guard, knowing fully well that God will give us(His children), the grace to press on to live a holy life to the praise of His glory.
