Children love gifts. My daughter Allegra cherishes them. She looks forward to birthdays and grandparents visit because gifts are certain. As grandparents walk in she looks in anticipation at their hand and asks them ” Grandma, what did you get for me?” she is certain that she is going to receive something. When she has received that gift, she keeps it close to her and for the next how many ever days plays with it and shows it off to her friends.
All gifts come from above and children are one among them.
Recently my 4-year old daughter came to me and she asked me,” Mama, when I was small was I a gift?”. Her eyes were fixed on me. Without giving it much thought I said, ” You still are my gift from God”. She came jumping with excitement and hugged me. It was at that time I realized that it meant a lot to her. The fact that I told her that she still is my gift made her jump up with joy. I guess the fact that she knows how much a gift means to her made her jubilant to know that she is my gift, no ordinary gift but a gift from God!
This makes me want to cherish and adore her more. A true gift. A gift from God, who he has given me to take care and nourish.
God, I pray that as each day passes by, you will help me to remember that you have bestowed me with a gift that I need to cherish. Fill me with gratitude. Help me remember that she is a gift given to us even in times of rebellion and tantrums. In all, God help me enjoy her, my gift from you.
Thank you baby for reminding me your worth! Thank you God for using her to teach me.
