Gentle and quite spirit, the Bible in 1 Peter 3:3-4 talks about the beauty that comes from the hidden person of the heart with a imperishable beauty of a gentle and a quite spirit.
As I read this I pray that God will grant me a gentle and a quite spirit. I long for that day when my beauty will be from the gentle and quite spirit, a spirit that will rest in God’s unchanging word, that trusts in His plan for me, that relies on the finished work on the cross and not my own, that realizes that the my worth is not my own, a spirit that will not be shaken in times of trouble, that will wait and long for the day of Christs’ return.
I love the new song from the Getty’s which is entitled – “My worth is not my own”
My worth is not in what I own
Not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love
At the crossMy worth is not in skill or name
In win or lose, in pride or shame
But in the blood of Christ that flowed
At the crossRefrain:
I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest Treasure,
Wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other.
My soul is satisfied in Him alone. As summer flowers we fade and die
Fame, youth and beauty hurry by
But life eternal calls to us
At the crossI will not boast in wealth or might
Or human wisdom’s fleeting light
But I will boast in knowing Christ
At the crossRefrain
Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed – my ransom paid
At the cross
Oh Lord, I pray this for me. That my worth be found in you. When the world hurls at me lies that my worth comes from the work that I do, the way that I look, the money that I earn, the house that I live in, the cars that I own, Oh Lord! let me be assured that my worth comes from the finished work on the cross. Not on any of the worldly standards.
When I am down and wallowing in my failures Lord remind me that my worth comes from your blood that was shed on the cross and not my ability. Oh God, help me trust in you. Help me look to the cross. Give me a quiet spirit that will Trust in you my great Redeemer!
