The Imitation game
I love movies that use the mind. Recently I realized that I love movies that contain a lot of emotion in them. Movies like The Judge, Piku which are slow. So as I searched for more movies to watch on the same lines, I chanced upon the movie – THE IMITATION GAME.
In 1939, newly created British intelligence agency MI6 recruits Cambridge mathematics alumnus Alan Turing to crack Nazi codes, including Enigma — which cryptanalysts had thought unbreakable. Turing’s team analyze Enigma messages while he builds a machine to decipher them. Turing and team finally succeed and become heroes, but in 1952, the quiet genius encounters disgrace when authorities reveal he is gay and send him to prison.
The story is brilliantly pictured, the emotions well captured. But amidst these was a subtle yet a strong message sent – Its okay to be who you are – Gay or straight! The mathematical genius who built the computer was gay, without him, the war would not have been won and the computers would have not come in place so it is okay. In fact the movie portrays how cruel the law was at that time who wouldn’t accept Gay and how Mr Turing committed suicide because of the stringent law and the shame he had to face because of the law.
The movie showed the law as the evil that forced a mind marvel such as Alan Turing to end his life.
That was then when the law was biblical. Now things have changed and a day has come when the law of the land says being Gay is a freedom of sexual expression. I can choose what I want to be and who I want to be because I am the master of me. I exist for me.
The Bible teaches us something totally different. The Bible says that we were created in the image of God as male and female, for the glory of God. We are created for the worship and Glory of the ultimate being God! The sexuality of the person – male or female is not a freedom of expression but it is how we are created even as we are formed in our mothers womb. We do not get to choose our gender,God does! Any form of deviation from this is sinful and we need to ask God to help us and run away from it.
In a world that teaches us to embrace sin, my prayer is that Lord that you would help us recognize sin in our lives. That you would help us fear you God and come to you for help. That we would run the cross in repentance and flee from sin. That we would live a life that would glorify you! Even as the world send subtle, yet strong message on embracing homosexuality, my prayer is that we recognize sin and flee from it.
