Is a Christian guarded from pain and suffering?
It is wrongly believed among some of the Christian circles that a Christian is guarded from pain and suffering. This however is not true. The Bible teaches us otherwise. The Bible teaches us that a Christian might suffer in this world but his hope lies in his God who is able to save Him at the end. A hope for eternal life, a life with God!
Matt 7:24-27 reads like this:
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
When we carefully see the above passage we notice that the the house built on the rock and the house built on the sand go through adverse times – rain, floods and winds. It is interesting to note the the house built on the rock, the Christians, are not kept away from tough situations. Every adversity that came to the house built on the sand, came to the house built on the rock. But the house built on the rock stood and did not crash!
We are called to be the house built on the rock. When pain, suffering, calamities come by let us remember that we are not of this world and there will be a day when we will be free from all this. A day when we will be with God, free from sin, free from pain. Until that day comes, let us realize that even when suffering and pain come by we will not be moved because we are the house built on the rock!
